Ivlie Godefroid
“Ivlie Godefroid” - or Julie Godefroid in modern spelling - unfortunately left no year or other marks on the sampler, making it difficult to determine the origin. But the name Julie Godefroid only occurs in the Genealogy in Belgium, France and Luxembourg and given the lack of the J and U in the alphabet, the sampler will probably have been made in the mid-19th century.
The sampler is stitched with silk thread on a tightly woven linen (15 threads per cm).
What appeals to me most are the beautiful colors and the various motifs. The landscape with the church, the butterfly, the shepherdess with all her animals and the more traditional motifs such as the reclining deer in the garden, the ship, cradle, etc.
I used my favorite motifs to make a pindrum, pincushions and needle book.
