Rondjes in Stapelsteek – het nieuwe boek van Nan van der Storm.

De Stapelsteek (in het Engels brickstitch) ziet er eenvoudig uit. Als vulsteek is hij dat ook. Maar er motieven in borduren is een andere zaak. 

Dit boek legt duidelijk uit hoe de Stapelsteek in motieven gemaakt moet worden. Het boek bevat meer dan 50 rondjes en andere motieven, plus een leuke variant op de Stapelsteek. Het boek staat weer vol met patronen; uiteraard worden ook de gebruikte kleuren genoemd. U treft ook veel borduurvoorbeelden aan, van de schrijver zelf en van Facebook-gebruikers die meededen met de stitch-a-long.

De Randjes are inextricably linked to Soed Idee and continue to attract people! A while ago I bought three red school cloths from one maker “Tona Janse” from Hellevoetsluis. 2 patches are dated 1908 and 1909, the third is probably from 1910. It is clear that this concerns 3 years of craft education. The patches contain a lot of Edges (and a few alphabets and number series), which increase in difficulty. Some edges are familiar and others are completely new. I was able to combine them relatively easily into one whole “Tona's Edges” (coincidentally, my mother-in-law's name was also Tona and she was a fanatic embroiderer!) 

Tona's Randjes are a complete pattern of both the complete version and the adapted version on tape, published in a beautiful book.

Marietje Brouwers, born somewhere in the Netherlands in 1908, stitched a small purse with a sampler on the backside at the age of 12. “JB” and “AvG” are presumably her parents.  

In 2022, I bought the framed purse at Marktplaats. Inspired by the purse, I designed a matching needle book and a scissor fob, creating a lovely sewing or embroidery set.

Cross stitch book by Shakespeare's Peddler "Most Humble Hands" 

This 40-page book is full of even more eye candy than "Red Letter Day," with a scrapbook-y feel and lots of photographs and art. Eight samplers are reproduced for this book, and photographs of the originals are included. This has been about a year in the making, and I thank everyone who helped -- my model stitchers, husband, friends and family. It's been a labor of love!

This sampler "Ivlie Godefroid" caught my eye because of the beautiful colours. Upon closer inspection, the sampler turned out to be full of nice motifs. A landscape with a church, butterfly, shepherdess with all her creatures and the more traditional motifs such as the reclining deer in the garden, a ship, cradle, etc.
The sampler is not dated but was probably made in the mid-19th century in Belgium, France or Luxembourg.
I charted the sampler and used a number of motifs to make a pin drum, pin cushions and needle book. These are all in this beautifully designed book.

And if you throw all those elements into Simone's brain with a good dose of inspiration, you get "Simone's Smalls"!
Simone designed a number of small embroidery projects ("Smalls"), inspired by the Randjes and embroidered them all in her favorite color red. Such as a pindrum, biscornu, mattress cushion, needle roll, etc. Finished with a beautiful French General fabric, it became a beautiful collection!

A few years ago I bought this beautiful antique sampler "GH1857" that stands out because of the use of color. This was the inspiration for the Pincushion Club of 2020-2021.
