Summer SAL 2024 - Hendrika Gast 1863

I recently bought this colorful sampler and I immediately thought: "Summer SAL"! The cheerful colors used by Hendrika Gast in 1863 almost make up for the lack of summer weather. The maker of the sampler was born in Enkhuizen on October 12, 1853 and was therefore 10 years old when she stitched the sampler. She died on March 9, 1930 in Haarlem at the age of 76. She worked as a housekeeper and remained unmarried.

I have put the patch on a pattern for you and starting from Saturday July 13 you will receive a pattern piece every week for 11 weeks.

The pattern is a total of 189 x 189 crosses.

Without the border (i.e. just the embroidery), the dimensions are:

I chose the color "Antique White" (101) for the fabric. Then a piece of 50 x 55 cm (Aida) or 50 x 70 cm is sufficient.

NB! A number of lighter colors are embroidered, which fade away somewhat on the Antique White fabric. This is close to the original, but if you do not want this, it is better to choose a slightly darker fabric color (for example Light Mocha 309 or Natural Raw 053)

A total of 8 colors are used and I made a version in DMC, Sulky and Soie D'Alger.

If you embroider with 2 threads of DMC, you need 2 strands of color 498!
